‘Missing Link’ Movie Summary
Lionel travels from London to the Pacific Northwest where he quickly finds the Sasquatch (Zach Galifianakis) in a forest. The Sasquatch reveals not only his ability to speak English, but that he was the one who wrote the letter to Frost. The Sasquatch, named Mr. Link by Frost, requests the sportsman’s help in finding his relatives, the Yetis, in the Himalayas. Lionel agrees to help as long as he can prove Mr. Link’s existence to the Society in exchange. Unbeknownst to Frost, Piggot-Dunceby has hired a bounty hunter named Willard Stenk (Timothy Olyphant) to kill Frost and prevent him from joining the Society.
To reach the Yetis, Frost realizes that he needs a map of the Himalayas. Fortunately, Lionel’s old lover Adelina Fortnight (Zoe Saldana) has such a map in her possession in Santa Ana, California. Frost and Link travel to California, with Link dressing as a human to hide his true identity. Once in Santa Ana, Adelina refuses to give the map to Frost since the sportsman failed to show up to the funeral of her husband, Frost’s former partner. Frost and Link break in Adelina’s home during the night and successfully steal the map, but Adelina tracks them down the next day at the train station. Once she hears of their quest, she agrees to let them keep the map as long as she can travel with them. Stenk arrives, and a shoot-out ensues, but the trio trick the bounty hunter into hopping on the train to search for them just as it leaves.
The trio makes their journey to Himalayas via boat. Adelina pressures Frost to treat Link like a person and with respect. Frost has a sincere conversation with Link, who tells Frost that he would prefer to be called “Susan” after a friendly prospector he once encountered. However, Stenk shows up again and ambushes them. The trio are able to lock Stenk in a room on the ship and make their escape.
The three arrive at the Himalayas and are directed to the Yetis by a mountain guide, Ama Lajuma (Amrita Acharia). During a blizzard, the trio encounter Yeti soldiers who take the group to their Queen (Emma Thompson). The Queen expresses her disdain for mankind, which extends to Susan as well due to his close interactions with humans. They throw the trio into a pit where they will starve to death. Susan is able to throw Adelina clear of the pit, and she is able to free Frost and Susan.
While the trio attempt to make their escape from the Yeti city, they run into Piggot-Dunceby and Stenk, who have been directed to the Yeti city by Ama when the villains threatened her grandson. Frost denounces Piggot-Dunceby and the Society and insists that Susan is more of a human being than anyone in the Society will ever be. Angered, Piggot-Dunceby begins firing his rifle into the ice bridge in an attempt to destroy it so that Frost will be trapped in the Yeti city. Susan stops him, but the damage is done and the bridge breaks anyways. Piggot-Dunceby falls to his death while Frost, Adelina, Susan, and Stenk make a run for it. They are too late and hang precariously from the ice ledges. Stenk, who made it back across, tries to kill Frost with an ice pick. The trio battle Stenk who eventually falls to his death as well.
The trio climb to safety and ponder what is next in their adventure. Frost asks Susan to be his new partner in his adventures. The Sasquatch eagerly accepts the offer. The trio look back across the broken bridge and see the Yeti Queen and some of her soldiers. Susan blows a raspberry at his distant cousins while Frost encourages him to act more dignified.
When the trio return home, Adelina informs Frost that she will be adventuring on her own for a while and departs, but not before she and Frost share a romantic moment. Frost and Susan plan their next adventure, to find the lost city of Atlantis. During the closing credits, maps and souvenirs are shown of their continuing adventures.
