Deadpool 2 (2018)The plot of “Deadpool 2” revolves around Wade Wilson’s (Ryan Reynolds) struggle to find purpose and meaning in his life after experiencing a personal tragedy. As the film begins, vigilante Deadpool is killing organized crime members when he has to leave suddenly to make it to his two-year anniversary with girlfriend, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). One of the crime members survives and follows Wade back to his apartment with some hitmen. Wade kills the hitmen, but Vanessa is killed during the exchange. Wade becomes despondent and tries to kill himself several different ways, but his healing factor prevents him from dying.

Wade is retrieved by Colossus (Stefan Kapičić) and brought back to the X-Mansion to mentally heal. Wade becomes a disruption at the mansion but finds some signs of purpose when he decides to help Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) with a mission to help a young mutant named Russell Collins (Julian Dennison) whose powers are just emerging. The mission does not go as planned and both Russell and Wade end up in a prison for superpowered inmates with collars that prevent them from using their powers. With no powers, Wade begins to succumb to the cancer that is in his body. Russell looks to Wade for advice, but Wade rejects him, causing Russell to look elsewhere for guidance.

Suddenly, the prison is infiltrated by a time traveling soldier from the future named Cable (Josh Brolin). Cable seeks to kill Russell due to the fact that future Russell, then known as Firefist, kills Cable’s entire family. Wade prevents Cable from killing Russell and inadvertently frees himself from the prison in the process. Russell remains imprisoned and later befriends Juggernaut (Ryan Reynolds). Wade, feeling a sense of responsibility for Russell, takes it upon himself to protect the young mutant and prevent him from going down a dark path.

You’re so dark. Are you sure you’re not from the DC universe? Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds)

To help him in his mission, Wade assembles a team of fellow mutants, including the luck-manipulating Domino (Zazie Beetz), the arrogant alien swordsman Shatterstar (Lewis Tan), and the acid-spewing Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgård), forming the X-Force. Together, they embark on a series of misadventures as they try to outwit Cable and save Russell. However, their attempts to help Russell fail as most of X-Force, except Wade and Domino, are killed while trying to free Russell during a prison transfer. Wade is successful in stopping Cable from killing Russell, but Russell chooses to leave with Juggernaut and pursue a life of revenge rather than return with Wade to the X-Mansion.

Ultimately, Wade reunites with Domino, Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Negasonic’s girlfriend Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna) to make one last attempt to redeem Russell. They are joined by Cable, who agrees to not kill Russell as long as he does not kill anyone, the point of no return for his dark future. Wade’s team travels to the orphanage that Russell was living in before his powers emerged. Russell intends to kill the school’s evil headmaster (Eddie Marsan) and is assisted by Juggernaut. Wade’s team battles both Russell and Juggernaut. Wade places himself between Russell and his target and attempts to show his sincerity to help Russell by placing a power-negating collar on. When Cable tries to shoot Russell, believing that he is beyond redemption, Wade takes the bullet in the chest. With the collar on, Wade dies, but Russell is redeemed. Cable uses his last time jump to go back in time to ensure that Wade survives the gunshot. With a newfound sense of purpose, Wade embraces his role as a hero and protector, vowing to continue fighting for justice and making the world a better place, one sarcastic quip at a time.

In the film’s mid-credits scene, Negasonic and Yukio repair Cable’s time travel device and Wade steals it to make changes in the past. He first saves Vanessa from dying in the opening scene of the film, he then travels to a scene in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and kills the Wade Wilson in that film, and finally he shoots the actor Ryan Reynolds in the head before he can make the film “Green Lantern.”
