Inside Out 2 (2024)
Riley, now a teenager about to start high school, finds her emotions managing a new part of her mind called the “Sense of Self.” As she heads to hockey camp with hopes of joining the Fire Hawks, Joy leads an effort to remove Riley’s negative memories, aiming to help her make a positive first impression. The night before her departure, an alarm for Puberty disrupts their plan, triggering renovations in Riley’s mental console and signaling the arrival of new emotions.
At hockey camp, Riley discovers her friends are heading to a different high school, adding to the emotional strain. Soon after, four new emotions—Anxiety, Envy, Embarrassment, and Ennui—arrive, with Anxiety taking the lead. The older emotions, though welcoming, are concerned about the stress these newcomers bring. Anxiety dumps the Sense of Self into the back of Riley’s mind, locking the older emotions in a glass jar deep inside her subconscious. With help from one of Riley’s imaginary friends, the older emotions escape and attempt to recover Riley’s true self, which Anxiety has buried under bad memories, believing it’s for Riley’s benefit.
As Joy and the others fight their way back, Anxiety continues to corrupt Riley’s self-esteem, straining her friendships and causing toxic behavior. Eventually, the old emotions retrieve Riley’s Sense of Self, though their haste causes an avalanche of negative memories. Back at headquarters, Joy convinces Anxiety to relax, which helps Riley feel more at ease during her final hockey game.
In the aftermath, Riley reconciles with her friends and makes new ones on the Fire Hawks. Inside her mind, the old and new emotions finally come together, agreeing to work in harmony to protect Riley and help her navigate her ever-evolving Sense of Self.
