Oliver And Company (1988) To Finally Make Blu-ray Debut
Walt Disney Home Entertainment has announced that they are adding the 25th Anniversary release of Oliver and Company to their upcoming slate of Blu-ray releases. The film was directed by George Scribner and featured the voice talents of Joseph Lawrence, Billy Joel, Cheech Marin, Richard Mulligan, Dom DeLuise, and Robert Loggia. Oliver and Company will be available for purchase online and in stores beginning on August 6th.
Walt Disney Animation Studio’s 27th feature is a contemporary re-telling of Charles Dickens’ ‘Oliver Twist’ and follows the misadventures of an orphaned kitten named Oliver (voiced by Lawrence) who is taken in by a pack of pickpocket dogs, headed by Dodger (Joel), the coolest quadruped in Manhattan, and their human master, Fagin (DeLuise). When a little girl from Fifth Avenue finds Oliver and takes him uptown to live among the swells, Fagin’s evil boss, Sykes (Loggia), steps in and kidnaps the pair. His nasty plan to keep Oliver from having his customary nine lives is foiled, however, when the ransomed kitten’s friends decide to use their street savoir faire to rescue their feline pal.
Oliver and Company was released in November of 1988 and grossed over $74 million at the box office.
Walt Disney Home Entertainment has not revealed any of the technical specifications as yet, but the special features on the Blu-ray will include: The Making of Oliver and Company featurette; Lend A Paw and Puss Cafe bonus shorts; Disney’s Animated Animals featurette; a sing-along mode; and more.
