‘The Addams Family’ Movie Summary
Thirteen years later, the Addams family live in unhappiness, which is just the way they like it. However, they live an isolated lifestyle. Gomez and Morticia have two children, Pugsley (Finn Wolfhard) and Wednesday (Chloë Grace Moretz). Gomez is working hard to prepare Pugsley for his sword Mazurka, a rite of passage that every Addams family member must undergo. Meanwhile, Wednesday is growing up and wants to learn more about the world outside the mansion grounds, although her parents attempt to discourage her.
Meanwhile, reality television host Margaux Needler (Allison Janney) is building a perfect planned community called Assimilation. She needs to complete the project for a successful season finale. Margaux realizes that the Addams’ mansion on the top of the hill will potentially ruin her plans and attempts to get the Addams family to conform. When they refuse to do so, Margaux attempts to get rid of the family and their mansion. Wednesday meets Margaux’s daughter Parker (Elsie Fisher) who tells the young Addams girl about all the horrible things that junior high girls do to each other, which is just the way Wednesday likes it. Wednesday is able to convince her mother to let her attend junior high school. Meanwhile, Pugsley is beginning to feel the pressure of the Mazurka just as Grandmama arrives for the event.
On Wednesday’s first day of junior high, Wednesday defends Parker and her friends from the school mean girl Bethany (Chelsea Frei). Wednesday resurrects the dead frogs in science class and directs them to attack Bethany after the mean girl threatens Wednesday. Parker and Wednesday start to become friends and even begin to change their styles, with Parker dressing more gothic and Wednesday dressing more colorfully. Morticia gets into an argument with Wednesday over her new life choices so Wednesday decides to run away from home and live with Parker. Pugsley inadvertently tells his mother where Wednesday is hiding.
Pugsley and Gomez continue to have different views of the Marzurka. Cousin It (Snoop Dogg) arrives to attend the affair. At the Needler residence, Parker and Wednesday discover a secret room under Parker’s house that houses an array of surveillance equipment that she has had planted in every house she designed in Assimilation. Margaux catches the two girls and locks them in the attic. She also leads a social media campaign against the Addams family which leads to an angry mob forming. The mob attacks the mansion just as Pugsley’s Mazurka is getting ready to begin.
Pugsley’s Mazurka goes horribly, as the young boy falls in front of the whole family. Nevertheless, Gomez reassures his son that he is an Addams nonetheless. Just at that moment, Margaux’s mob arrives and begins flinging boulders at the mansion. Pugsley uses his bombs to defend his family and the mansion. He is able to destroy the mob’s trebuchet just as Wednesday and Parker arrive and help everyone out of the wreckage from the mansion.
The mob begins to favor the Addams family after they watch the family’s mansion destroyed. Margaux makes one last attempt to keep the favor of the crowd, but they reject her. Parker reveals that they have all been spied on by her mother’s hidden security cameras. Margaux’s agent, Glenn (Tituss Burgess), informs the reality star that the network has cancelled her show. The Addams family and their neighbors come to peace.
Assimilation’s neighbors and the Addams family rebuild the mansion together and live in peace together. Margaux becomes Fester’s business partner, selling homes to the other members of the Addams’ extended family.
